I see that GWTW offers a few kite videos. Anyone care to recommend a title or two?

I can of course only refer to the videoes I've seen; Prism Kites' 'The Way to Fly' and 'The Advanced Way to Fly'.

'The Way to Fly' is great for the novice as an introduction to the sport. It covers kite flying safety, kite/line assembly, misc. kite terms and basic flying techniques. It also reveals some of the magic to be found on the 'Advanced Way to Fly'.

'The Advanced Way to Fly' takes it all a step or three further going through a few basic 'tricks' like misc. groundwork and stalls/stall technique. It continues with a lot of other tricks too.

Both viedos shows most of the tricks using a split screen. In that manner you can watch both the kite _and_ the pilot's movements. Very useful! Lots of data animated graphics visualise the tricks even better.

The only downside IMHO is that the videos are kind of outdated meaning the new hyped up cool stuff (like the Backspin, Fruit Rollup, Jacob's Ladder etc....) is not included.

But, hey, You don't do them on your first day of flying anyway! ...or do you?

There's also a series of videos (Flight School) by Dodd Gross out there. I've seen only #4. Quite different in style compared to the Prism ones, but very much worth the $. Dodd has also made a brand new video including a lot of the new stuff!

...but what really counts is to get out and fly and have fun with your buddies!

Any wiser?

Instructional - 1)Advanced Way to Fly, Prism - well done video that covers the basic tricks. 2)New Flight School, Dodd Gross - Progressive training system to develop the basics needed for more advanced flying. Covers a lot of tricks in a short period of time (rewind and review). 3)Rev. Advanced Training, Revolution - had to include this as I learned my coolest (O.K. my only) Rev trick from it, the throw and catch.

Inspirational - (aka 'Rainy Day Videos' 1)Trick Show, Prism - 25 minutes of non-stop flying. Almost as good as being on Kite Hill. 1.5)Trick Tail Feeling, Martin Schob - Would be number 1 if it was longer (only 14 min.). Incredible Flying, Incredible Videography, and Incredible Music by Aerial Acoustics!

...later... Steve

have the prism and dodd videos. i leave in an area with only one other kite flyer. the videos have been great teachers. ( i might not be that great of student, but thats another story)

get both the prism and the full set of dodd's videos. i don't consider one 'better' than the other. learned from both. i really like dodd's fantasy tour 99. some cool flying to watch on there.

another video with great flying is the tricktail video. martin is amazing to watch.

hey you gotta have several so you can call it a library.

I'm rather fond of Tricky Flickery, especially the 540 Flat Spin section.

There is also some very kewl footage of Carl Robertshaw, flying a Matrix on short lines, that is Amazing, towards the end of the tape.

For my money, the best videos ever made were done by Dodd several years ago. See if you can't find someone that will sell you the first three. If you master the tricks on those videos there is nothing you cannot learn from a description of tricks. His newest video is good but the old ones are the best made. Bob
