I have a lot of friends asking if they can buggy on the TI Beach with standard tires. They don't belief me when I say yes.
Would someone either confirm or deny this please
Thanks, Miked

If I knew what a standard tire was, I could. The sand is hard backed at water's edge. Fenders would help you to stay clean - that I know.

Don't know what the max sand depth is for standard buggy tire size, but I can confirm that the beach sand at TI is some of the most hard-packed I have ever seen.
In fact, its pretty similar to flying on a grass field - not like flying on the beach at Belmar or Ocean City !

look at the beach in the picture, it's darn hard packed... even if it weren't I've seen few beaches where the waterline wasn't rideable, so long as you avoid high tide...

That's not a live webcam picture! That's what the beach looked like last year. It was 'reclaimed' this summer with pipes, pumps and bulldozers all over it until two weeks ago. It should be higher, wider and 'fluffier' now. (Like a new hair-do!) However, the buggiers might have to bring rakes and trash bags to clear the debris after hurricane Gordon the other day. (Just kidding about the rakes and trash bags. The city is cleaning it up for us.)

Yah, it says that across the picture... Even if they have fluffed it all to hell a good tide would fix that quick, atleast near the water.

Every time I've buggied at TI it has been with standard tires with no problems - there are very few soft spots. If there is some rain ahead of time, the whole beach is hard pack.

Hey everybody, I have been buggying T.I. for the last 2 1/2 years, standard tires only. For the most part the sand is pretty hard. A few soft spots near the grasses and up by the hotels. The reclamation has been at either end of the miles of beach via a pipe so nothing really got 'fluffed up'. With a good steady sea breeze expect buggy speeds around 20 - 25 mph. Most of the tourist have gone so crowds should be light which means more room for us (all kiteflyers not just the buggies). Thanks to the reclamation project there is more beach now! Should be lots-o-fun. So bring your kites, your buggies, a lot of water, (beer is ok on the beach but not whine, note spelling). Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
