Reminiscing over a pint the other night and we got talking about Peter Powell Kites.

Are they still going? (Web search and a call to directory enquiries proved fruitless)

Has anyone still got on?

Hi Gary, I heard somewhere that Peter dosn't trade anymore. Our local toy shop still has some left from last years stock, they're around £15. Where in the country are you, maybe I can send you one. Regards, Dave.

Hi Gary.

I replied to a news group message which asked for people who had owned / flown this kite. Turned out to be the BBC TV Company. The girl I spoke to said that she had interviewed Peter Powell. Maybe your answer could lie with her. The number is 0161 2444217 (Manchester U.K) contact name is Julie O'Regan.

Good luck Gary.

Regards

Simon.

If anything fails, you could also build one (or have it built..)

The (original with the steel spring center 'T': can be replaced with a dehedral) is in Pelham's Penguin Book of Kites.

If you do, make a stack and find some 100 ft tubetails: there must be a whole generation that had to miss that by now... even today it's still guaranteed to be a show stopper at festivals.

Regards, Peter

Very kind of you Dave. I live in Cornwall, just outside Truro. It looks as though if I'm going to fly a Peter Powell train I'd better move fast.

So the Trilbys aren't being made anymore huh??

Oh well, at least there's the Cayman - the kite that looks like a Trylby but which for legal reasons isn't a Trylby..

Might want to keep an eye on ebay. Don't think there are any on there now, but several months ago I recall seeing a bunch of Peter Powell kites there.

He gave up last year, I heard the news at Bristol Fest. Contact Roy Broadley of Kites Up, he bought up the last of the stock. only one or two left now.

My first real kete was a Brookite. Whatever happened to them? Is there anyone who makes kites nowadays of their quality?
