Ooops, this message is more on topic. I'm thinking of converting an old delta I've got hanging around to quad lines as at http://kitefisherperson.homestead.com/QDelta1.html. Anyone got any tips? I've made some quick and dirty wooden handles which I think could be pretty nice but don't have the curved bit most handles have . Is there any reason for quad handles being bent, other than so the neutral position makes the kite fly normally rather than stall / go backwards? I guess with straight handles you can't tip them right back without the line catching your hand too.

Also how does a four line delta compare to a rev? I'd guess it will be somewhere between a rev and a normal delta? Can you fly them backwards or does the wing shape mess that up and make it just do a stall?

I fly all my delta quad lines. Even stack a Trick Tail, Precision and Omega together. Now that's a hand full. 3 different sized, style of flying all stacked together. Picture 3 kites with 6 45foot tails all in the sky. It pulls like a dang truck and can be a hand full if the wind is gusty. It sure makes people look. Also try landing your kite in the ocean, in about 3 foot of water. As the wave goes out the kite will rise up out of the water. Using the water for lift rather than wind. Once it pops out of the water the wind picks it up and away it goes. If your flying tails also, the tails drag so you have to have very good control to keep the kite going up until the tail clears the water. This can only be done with quad lines, at least I've never been able to do it dual lined. To fly quad delta the main hint is to have a very long adjusting bridle on your handles. Also forget the straight handles. Make the curved ones with plastic conduit. Not hard to make. The quad delta will fly some what like a Rev. It will fly backwards and will do the nose down stop just before the ground. It can sit still in the air, pivot very precise. It will even fly sideways. It will even do the Rev ground thump (which you do not want to do). I want to get to a kitefest that has an obstacle course competition again. Last one I was at was dominated by Revs (before I had done quad delta). Bob

Interesting method, but where comes the power from? It seems to be coming from the bottom lines instead of the top lines and if that's the case you will have to stear with the top lines?

Hey Joe (...where you going with... well. Never mind :O))

I just posted a pic on our club site you may wanna look at. One of our members decided to do just the same but had a strange notion.
http://homepages.tesco.net/~are/tkfindex.html

You wanna go to the members pages and look for the M Thing near the bottom.

The bridling is a bit strange, like the standard three point remain but the tow point is way down below the bottom spreader (for the lower lines). The top lines run from the top spreader/LE points to the centre spine point on the lower spreaders.

It will fly backwards, though not easily. It fights all the way and tries to turn/spin.

... mind you, it will fade and axel real good. I only flew it for an hour but it's oddly addictive.

Allow me to chime in.........http://tcultra.com They do all of the quad-effect moves. It requires a different technique than a Rev. but it can be done. Revs do some things easier than Ultras and visa versa.
