Hi

I'm really quite knew to stunt kiting, I've been building a few single liners from ripstop, and recently my girlfriend and I bought a couple of dual line stunt kites.

On the smaller of the two, the 'pilot', there are a couple of small rods attached perpendicular to the leading edge spars. What on earth are these for? I thought they might be for launching or balance, but I'm really not sure.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

What you describe sound to me like 'battens'. These are used to hold certain areas of the sail in a shape that the material could not have with out a stiffener. Typically they are used near the wing tips to give more surface area. This results in more drag at the tips of wing, giving more directional stability when the kite is in forward motion.
