Qualifier here: My experience has been with Revolutions but I expect the same holds true for all quad line kites.
With the kite on the ground in normal launch position, Place the two handles together. Align them perfectly. I use two hands to make sure they stay together and aligned.
Then, All you do is launch the kite. If the lines are perfectly balance then the kite will climb straight up. If Not then it will move of f in one direction or the other.
If it turns then you will need to ask yourself 'If I wanted to make the kite turn in that direction which line would I have to pull on'. That is the line that you can suspect as being a little shorter than the rest.
you will need to repeat the test several times before making any adjustment just to see if the error is consistent.

That won't work unless you have extremely smooth wind though...

There is a much more certain way. When laying out the lines spike a ground stake at the upwind end and place all four end loops over it. Walk the lines out and then tension all four at once using your winder or fingers. Any differences in length become immediately apparant. If, as is often the case with me, you find that the upper pair have stretched more than the lowers just switch them when attaching to the kite. (This is assuming a Rev or other stunt kite, not a taction type which may use heavier line on the uppers.)

It won't work unless you have a controlled launch regardless of wind. Still that's a time I would use my adjustment knots on my handle rather then equalizing my lines. I like the stake method described in windblown's response and even use an equalizer. Tug and lag don't cut it for me. Best Breezes,
