TIP 002 *Self Launch*

When you set up your kite on the field and stake the handles to the ground there is a definite HAZARD. If the kite is not leaned back enough it could self launch and wind up doing damage not only to your kite but to other people on the field.

For a detailed view go to:

All experienced fliers should be sure to caution new fliers of this hazard. If too many accidents happen on our favorite flying fields the city could post a restriction and then we would all lose.

Learning and Sharing is the Heartbeat of Kiting,

Ron

I have a question Ron. Why stake your lines?

I setup my kite 'ala' Flight School method (been doing it that way for 6 years).

First setup kite, attach lines, unwind lines, & lastly attach lines to your straps. Kite is on its back then launch it when you want to.

So what are the advantages of staked lines?

Thanks again for the tips.

Hi David, This tip was offered for those that prefer, and teach others to stake their lines. I personally do not. I Lay my kite on it's back - nose into the wind - stretch out my lines - and then execute a Turtle Launch. (Page 46 of 'Kite Precision' Thanks, Ron
